Construction of a Box Kart!

Building a box kart, if done properly will not take a couple of weekends. Allow plenty of time as you will need to test and at the very least let the Cubs sit in it . You also will need time for the coats of paint to dry correctly .

Chassis is to be made of wood. A twin rail chassis will handle a lot better than a single rail chassis, as it keeps the front axle level and stops the rear axle lifting in the corners.
Thin ply can be used for the sides. This makes no effect on the performance, but is great for sponsors names and pack details .
When fixing together it is recommended you use an adhesive as well as screws. This could be no more nails or similar products .
Axles are made of steel with an eye hole for the steering rope.
Wheels are ex pushchair. These have been cleaned and repainted using powder coating. This will ensure they will last for a very long time if looked after properly .
Axles are made from roof bars from cars. (Halfords bars are great) Wheels run on 1/2 inch UNF bolts with nylock nuts.
Complete the assembly of the kart, then disassembly it before you start to think about painting it .
Seat is very simply an old car baby seat. A Britax 9kg works very well once stripped and cleaned .
